Abortion

I do not believe this is an issue about women and their right to have control over their own bodies but a matter of taking responsibility for one’s actions. If a woman decides to have sex and in turn gets pregnant than it is her responsibility as well as the man’s to take care of that unborn child to the best of their abilities and raise the child once born to be a productive citizen of this great Nation.

In this belief, I also understand that there are times when this cannot hold true. I do believe an abortion can be obtained in the first trimester, giving the woman ample time to decide hers and the baby’s fate and that of her actions. After that time, I believe abortions can only be performed prior to the third trimester in cases of incest or rape. For this to occur, the woman must file the necessary legal actions to claim that she was the victim of incest or rape.

The only other time an abortion should be legal is when after careful consultation with the woman’s doctor, they both agree that termination of the pregnancy is the necessary course of action to save the mother’s life due to health concerns.

In so much, I do believe the Supreme Court of the United States in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (2022), issued the appropriate ruling overturning Roe v. Wade (1973), which guaranteed a constitutional right to abortion. This is an issue left up to each State and their citizens to determine.
